OKANAGAN PRIDE

Join us August 12–19, 2017 for the 10th anniversary of Okanagan Pride.

It’s our diamond anniversary celebration and we’re planning a solid line-up of events. It’s sure to be bigger and better than any Pride celebration the Okanagan has seen!

2017 marks a pretty special milestone—the 10th anniversary of Pride festivities in Kelowna under the Okanagan Pride umbrella: our diamond anniversary.

As such, this year’s theme—Shine Bright— is directly inspired by the shimmering gemstone. And the metaphors are plenty.

We all know that Kelowna is the jewel of British Columbia, but that secret is getting out! Our community is one of the fastest growing cities in Canada and we’re getting younger, as 25-to-34-year-olds make up the largest group of new residents. Kelowna has its shine on, and there’s no sign of that dulling.

The theme is for LGBT2Q+ allies too. Queer communities in the Okanagan are making tremendous gains in equity and inclusion thanks to the encouragement and support of our allies. Just like a diamond, we are unbreakable and stronger together when we celebrate our diversity.

But most importantly our theme is a call to action for the entire LGBT2Q+ community— both collectively and as individuals. Keep carrying on. Show your pride. Express who are. And love who you want. It’s Pride. It’s your time. Shine Bright.

—Okanagan Pride Society

Stuart Park to Waterfront Park

Get your rainbow brights ready and join Okanagan Pride Society as we march together and shine our Pride along Kelowna’s waterfront...it’s the biggest celebration of the whole week.

Due to this year’s unprecedented lake levels, we have a slightly new route but an AMAZING new destination—it all still starts at Stuart Park, but we’ll head north along the boardwalk, ending in beautiful Waterfront Park, with its grassy amphitheatre, floating stage and some trees for shade (“Can I get an Amen?)!

10:30am - Marshalling begins at Stuart Park. Wear any color of the rainbow or get your friend to dress-up as a “team”. Pride flags will be available for purchase (cash only). Interested in being an official flag-bearer? Apply now: goo.gl/forms/ZLl8AavniB6juPdn2

11am - Our feet start moving and the cheering begins as we make our way to Waterfront Park.

11:30 - Festivities in Waterfront Park kick into full gear.

What’s in store at the Festival in the Park?

> Main Stage: A non-stop roster of performers. Stay tuned for details.

> 40+ vendors: Food trucks, community groups and local business owners. Buy some goods, nosh on some eats and learn about great groups in your community.

> Pooches on Parade: An annual crowd-pleaser where our canine friends show off their Okanagan Pride. (Get your pooch registered now: goo.gl/forms/zYZjhBnPZx9jEqW83).

> Beer Garden: Quench your thirst on some lager, cider or our exclusive Pride Wine on what’s historically a hot-hot Okanagan day. $5 cash entry to the beer garden.

> For kids (or nimble adults): A bouncy castle, an inflatable obstacle course and a jousting arena = a whole lotta F-U-N.

> Mass wedding (2pm): For any queer or ally couples who want to get hitched! (Advance registration before August 15 required, see: www.facebook.com/events/1741083809242124/)
